Nature of Engagement

Enfold Proactive Health Trust is seeking two highly motivated and experienced Research Assistants to contribute to a research study on exploring the impact of social media on adolescents in Karnataka. This study will be conducted in collaboration with the Fund for Global Human Rights. This study seeks to secure an in-depth and nuanced understanding
of the nature of adolescents’ engagement with social media to promote healthy and responsible online digital interaction.

The research assistants will play a vital role in data collection. They will be required to conduct interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys with students, teachers, and parents across schools in Bangalore and rural Karnataka.

Key Responsibilities

1. Set up a schedule for data collection in all the study schools.
2. Travel to schools in Bangalore and rural Karnataka for data collection.
3. Secure consent for data collection from adult respondents.
4. Secure assent for data collection from parents/guardians of underage respondents
5. Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and data protection protocols.
6. Conduct focus group discussions with students and in-depth interviews with students and teachers.
7. Administer surveys to parents online/phone/in person
8. Establish rapport and communicate effectively with students of diverse backgrounds.
9. Maintain detailed field reports
10. Undertake data entry on a regular basis and conduct preliminary data processing.
11. Attend all data collection debrief meetings
12. Collaborate with the research team for data analysis and interpretation.
13. Maintain proper documentation of all expenses – bills, invoices.
14. Submit all documentation to the Enfold Administration on a monthly basis.

Qualification and Experience

EDUCATION:
1. A Master’s degree in any of the Social Sciences (such as Social Work, Psychology, Law, Public Health, Education, Special Education, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Gender Studies, etc.)
2. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with extensive research experience will be considered.
Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in Psychology and Child Development.
WORK EXPERIENCE: 2-5 years of relevant work experience (qualitative research) in the research domain.

Skills and Personal Attributes

Essential:
1. Proficiency in English and Kannada is required.

a) Ability to translate the different tools from English to Kannada will be
given preference: (FGD guides; in-depth interview guides and survey
questionnaires)
b) Ability to conduct sessions in Kannada and record the responses in
English
c) Ability to enter the data into the content matrices in English irrespective
of the language of data collection.

2. Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.
3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to put respondents at ease.
4. Ability to adapt and create an inclusive environment during data collection.
5.. Experience in data collection in diverse geographic and socio-economic contexts..
6. Ability to identify nuances during focus group discussions and interviews.
7. Excellent note taking skills and attention to detail.
8. Familiarity with data entry and preliminary data processing.
