Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach To Management Of Child Abuse

In 2012 Enfold initiated the Collaborative Child Response Unit project. This involves creating a hospital based multidisciplinary team to manage cases of sexual violence in a sensitive and effective manner. This is a unique initiative where we worked with UNICEF and Government of Karnataka to set up hospital based Collaborative Child Response Units. Over 750 police personnel, 300 doctors, 550 social workers and other stakeholders involved in the protection of children have been sensitized across India while implementing the project. Four CCRUs are functional in Bangalore (Ramaiah hospital, Baptist Hospital, KIMS Hospital, Bowring Hospital) to cater to the needs of children who have been sexually abused.

Training is provided for the following stakeholders:

  • Medical Staff
  • Police (staff of Special Juvenile Police Unit, Child Welfare Officers, etc)
  • Social Workers
  • Childline staff
  • Staff of state District Child Protection Units
  • Staff of Govt Children’s home
  • Dept of Prosecution,

Differentiator

This initiative creates a safe and child friendly environment for children and their family when they approach the system for redressal, in the event of an abuse.

India’s first CCRU was inaugurated on 19th Nov 2011 at Ramaiah Hospital , Bangalore.
